Staff at the Liquorice Gardens recently held a fundraising day at the JD Wetherspoons pub on Newcastle Street to raise money for Help For Heroes.

The event saw one employee, Tom Baker, carry around a desert bergin while he served customers for his entire 12 hours shift.

His colleagues dressed in army gear, and together they raised £1,072.10 for Help For Heroes.

They recently presented the money to Tony Eaton, the charity’s north east regional co-ordinator.

Mr Eaton thanked staff and customers for their efforts and said the money raised will go towards supporting wounded injured and sick service personnel at the new Catterick Recovery Centre.
