Worksop: Pupils from Outwood Portland Academy give up spare time to raise over £1000 for Bassetlaw Hospice

Pupils have been giving up their spare time and packing bags to raise vital funds for a hospice.

Twenty-nine pupils from Portland Outwood Academy, Worksop, packed bags at their local Morrsions store and managed to raise an impressive £1020.

Emma Ferrarelli, assistant principle said: “Our student volunteers wanted to show their support for the local charity by raising as much money as possible and, thanks to the kind shoppers of Worksop, they managed to raise an incredible £1020.61.”

“As always, it is an honour spending time with these amazing young people, who are so keen to give something back.”

“All students involved have also expressed an interest in visiting Africa in 2016 to take part in intensive community projects supporting children and families much less fortunate than themselves.”

“They will soon commence their personal fundraising journey to make their dream to help others a reality.”

The pupils presented a cheque to Bassetlaw Hospice and the school prepared a special assembly.

Helen Eshelby, fundraising and events co-ordinator for Bassetlaw Hospice, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the students at Outwood Academy Portland for raising such an incredible amount for us.”

“We appreciate how much time and effort goes into organising a bag packing event and would like to thank everyone for getting involved.”
