Worksop: Rare habitats at Clumber Park set for restoration

The Sherwood Forest Trust project was awarded the cash from a multi-million fund that helps to build communities and transform lives through awarding grants to community and environmental projects.

The project, which was awarded funding under Biffa Award’s Rebuilding Biodiversity theme will enhance the reedbed habitat at Clumber Park.

It will also include the restoration of 50 metre of river bank on the River Leen and associated lowland wet grassland habitat at Newstead Abbey, and 300 metre of bank along the River Poulter.

The project will create community volunteer opportunities and build relationships with site owners, as well as feeding into the Sherwood Forest Trust’s education programme for the next five years.

Ian Major, community heritage landscape officer at Sherwood Forest Trust said: “The existing reed bed bas become encroached and natural succession, essentially the development of woodland, means that this funding will allow for this area to be brought back to life. The flow of water will better and marginal habitat improved greatly.”
