Worksop: School military day will help support campaign to save local British Legion branch from closure

Children at St John's Primary School have built an Anderson Shelter which will be opened at their military day this weekend

The day is part of the school’s focus on the centenary celebrations to commemorate the start of World War I.

It is also as chance for youngsters to their respects to the servicemen and women who lost their lives in wars and those serving in current conflicts

Pupils at the school have built an Anderson Shelter which will be opened on the day by Brian Madden, chairman of the Worksop Branch of the Royal British Legion.

The day will also feature have craft stalls, Thurcroft Brass Band, memorabilia stands, wartime fancy dress, a wartime Strictly Come Dancing competition.

There will also be penalty shoot-out competition in tribute to the football match that took place one Christmas on the battlefield.

Local Cadets, Scouts and Guides groups will also be there.

All proceeds from the day will also go to the Worksop branch of the Royal British Legion, which the Guardian is leading a campaign on to help prevent the Worksop branch from closure.
