Worksop: Serial fundraisers exceed £5,000 mark after latest Children’s Hospital donation

The McGlone family, from Manton, raised the money by holding a raffle in aid of the charity’s ‘Make It Better’ day and the latest donation means the serial fundraisers have now raised over £5,000 for the limb reconstruction unit at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Their efforts are part of a continued thank you to the Children’s Hospital for the work and support the unit has offered to their daughter, Jessica.

Born with a shortened arm and fused fingers, Jessica, now 10, has had numerous operations in her short life.

Surgeons at Sheffield Children’s Hospital managed to create three fingers for Jessica from her fused hand where she now has a metal plate.

Jessica, who attends Ryton Park school, has also had operations on her forearm, which only has one bone where normally there are two.

She sports all this, though, with an overwhelming cheefulness and a complete lack of self sympathy.

“We do it every year to try and help the unit and just to give something back,” Heather McGlone, Jessica’s mother, told the Guardian.

“We raised more (over £500) last year, but we were going on holiday. We’re so thankful to the unit and we are going to continue raising money for them for every occasion.”
