“I am going to miss the people and the mutual help that we give each other,” Dave said.

“The people of Worksop have been very loyal, they have always stuck by me.”

“I will come back to see my friends in the future.”

Dave said starting out as a market trader in 1989 was a ‘stop gap’ but then he was able to develop the business and make it a success.

Like all market traders, he has faced numerous challenges, including staying afloat during the ‘credit crunch’ and battling through the cold and wet winter months.

“When the credit crunch hit, it was difficult,” Dave said.

“It is not a cash society any more.”

Dave, whose stall is located opposite Lloyds bank, makes the journey from his home in Scunthorpe and also trades in Gainsborough.

“If the people are as loyal as they have been to me, then the market will go from strength-to-strength,” Dave added.

“I am greatful to Bassetlaw Council for all the support they have given me.”

“The market management provided us with new stall sheets which are a big improvement.”

As well as visiting family and relaxing, Dave and his wife Linda, who have been married for 36 years, are planning to jet away on a couple of holidays.

Dave said: “I will probably get some DIY done which I have been putting off for a number of years!”

Wife Linda, who has helped out on the stall for around four years, said: “I am happy he is retiring.”

“I have been asking him to finish for the last few years.”

“We are planning lots of holidays.”

“I am sure he will miss the market,” she added.
