Worksop: Students at Outwood Academy Valley claim top award at UK Rock Challenge Open Finals

The pupils, aged between 11-17, travelled to Grimsby Auditorium at the start of the month.

The team of dancers, stage crew and video and lighting assistants had been rehearsing since October last year as well as giving up several weekends to compete in the regional heats at Grantham.

However the efforts of the youngsters paid off as they qualified for the Northern Open Finals in March.

A spokesman for Outwood Academy Valley said: “Although the Northern Finals had some amazing teams from schools around the north, Outwood Academy Valley received a number of awards of excellence for a range of skills.”

“The students waited nervously for the announcement of which the school had been awarded the title of Northern Open Winners 2015.”

“The students are so proud of their achievement and are still practicing as now they are to compete in the UK Final in July.”
