The 14-year-old took the bike on 20th December last year, but was unaware if was one of Notts Police’s capture bikes and was fitted with tracking and recording equipment.

Inspector Steve Cartwright said: “The bike had only been out there an hour before it was taken from an area we had identified as frequented by known offenders. It was like a mouse to a piece of cheese.”

“Remember capture bikes look like any other road or off-road motorbike and could be parked up anywhere from driveways and roadsides to car parks.”

The youngster pleaded guilty to taking a vehicle without consent.

He was sentenced at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on 22nd February to a youth rehabilitation order until February next year.
