Worksop: Wildlife themed beers to be produced at local brewery

From the Notebook is releasing its third series of beers and wanted to brew them at the Worksop facility as it is close to its Nottingham base.

The company was formed by Graeme Denton and Colin Bowler in 2012. The pair wanted to celebrate British wildlife through beer and accordingly named their business after an illustration book belonging to a wildlife enthusiast.

Graeme said: “We have always wanted to brew more locally and we approached Welbeck Abbey who are happy to brew in partnership with our requirements and joint ideas.”

Welbeck Abbey is a traditional real ale brewery and was set up in 2011 by head brewer Claire Monk. It is housed in a listed barn.

Through the Notebook’s new series relates to moths and has started with a smooth stout called Death’s Head Hawk Moth. Three new varieties will be introduced over the next year.

Welbeck Abbey will also be brewing casks and bottles of their golden ale called Golden-Ringed Dragonfly. Graeme was approached by an officer from the British Dragonfly Society whilst selling at an event about producing a beer to reflect that insect.

Graeme said: “It’s a light beer that is perfect for summer drinking at a time when dragonflies are active.”

Donations from all sales are given to the respective conservation society to help aid their work.

Through the Notebook’s bottled bears are available at specialist beers shops and the draft versions can be purchased at various pubs.
