Worksop: Wilko’s workers put best foot forward to raise for cancer charity

The assistant store manager of Wilko’s Head office store in Worksop will team up with four other staff to complete the challenge which involves walking 64 miles over 24 hours. The feet will start next Tuesday in Manchester and finish in Nottingham.

The team of five aim to raise £2000 for Maggie’s Centres, a provider of free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer.

Ryan said: “We’re all really excited about Maggie’s challenge in August and we’ve been training hard walking more miles each session.

“Although we know the challenge won’t be easy, we have received so much encouragement from friends, family, colleagues and all the team at Maggie’s.”

The group aim to riase funds to help the work of the charity. Ryan added: “We are keen to raise as much money as possible as the Maggie’s Centres do vital work in our region and the charity has just become our new regional charity of the year.

“We’re determined to complete the challenge!”

The walk with start and conclude at Maggie’s Centres in the respective cities.

Kate Martin, centre head at Maggie’s Nottingham, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be chosen as one of Wilko’s regional charities of the year and overwhelmed by the commitment the team members have shown in raising funds for us.”
