Worksop: Woman found breaching her injuction hiding in wardrobe

Members of the public had tipped off Bassetlaw Council officials that she was at 28 Kent Close, an area prohibited under the terms of her ASBI.

She was arrested when Notts Police officers visited the address and found her hiding.

Thompson appeared at Mansfield County Court for breaching the injunction, where she was jailed for three months by District Judge Hale.

Bernard Coleman, managing director at A1 Housing said he hoped this would give people the confidence to report any incidents of anti-social behaviour.

He said: “Joanne Thompson chose to breach her ASBI and as a result she will now be spending Christmas in prison.”

“We will not tolerate anti-social behaviour blighting the lives of our tenants and residents and this case shows that ASBIs are not a soft touch or an easy option.”

“I am delighted that members of the public came forward and provided the information that led to this result.”

“I hope it gives people the confidence that we take anti-social behaviour seriously and if people come forward and work with us we will act on their concerns.”

Coun Julie Leigh, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, which includes community safety at Bassetlaw Council said: “Nobody should have to put up with anti-social behaviour and we will use all the powers at our disposal to tackle it, including pursuing individuals through the courts.”

“The fact that this individual has been imprisoned shows that asbis can be backed with serious sanctions and should act as a deterrent to others.”

Thompson’s ASBI prohibited her from using or threatening to use violence and entering or remaining in Baker Close, Worksop. It also barred her from an area between Crown Street, John Street, Dock Road, Gateford Road and Cresswell Road, Worksop as well an area bordered by Gloucester Road and Prospect School playing fields.

She was witnessed at 28 Kent Close, Worksop by members of A1 Housing and Bassetlaw Council’s Joint ASB team, following information from members of the public.

Thompson was of three people hauled before the courts last month and given an ASBI after causing a catalogue of anti-social behaviour incidents, including damage to A1 Housing properties.
