Worksop: Young football fan made VIP at Manchester City’s FA Cup quarter final

A young football fan who broke his leg received the surprise of a lifetime when his favourite team made him a VIP at the FA Cup quarter finals.

Jake Herring, aged 8, from Worksop, fractured his leg whilst playing in goal for Worksop Under 8s and was feeling glum while recovering at home.

In a bid to cheer Jake up, his Dad, Chris, wrote to Manchester City football club asking if the goalkeeper, Joe Hart, would sign a get well soon card for his son.

The card was soon sent back to Jake with a message from Joe, plus three VIP Executive Box Tickets for Jake and his parents at the FA Cup Quarter Final on Sunday 9th March.

Chris Herring said: “On the day of the game, the club made a huge fuss over Jake from the minute we arrived.”

“We had an executive box pretty much to ourselves with our own hostess and a fantastic view of the pitch- it was a once in a life time experience that Jake and his family will never forget.”

Although Jake still has a few months of recovery ahead, he has every intention of getting back in goal.

“Jake is definitely aiming to be back for the start of next season- although I believe his Mum will be insisting he wears a suit of armour from now on,” Mr Herring added.
