World Cup ref supports hospice

World Cup referee Howard Webb kicked off the season of giving as he presented a cheque to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice recently.

Howard, who is a patron of the children’s charity, was guest speaker at the Football Safety Officers Association 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner and asked that his £500 fee be donated to the hospice.

He said: “It’s nice to be able to give something back to the local community and after visiting Bluebell on numerous occasions I think they are a very deserving charity.

“I really support the fantastic work they do and I’m honoured to be a patron,” he added.

Heidi Megaughin, acting chief executive of Bluebell Wood, said support from local people was vital.

She said: “We are extremely grateful to Howard for his continued support and recognition of our work here at Bluebell Wood.”

“Local support like this is vital to our success and the money raised will help us to continue to offer our support to more local children and their families who need our help.”
