Wragby Round-up

Parish Council - The next meeting ill be in the Town Hall on Monday November 2, starting at 7.15pm.

There will be a 15- minute open session to give members of the public an opportunity to raise matters of interest and concern to them in the parish.

The meeting will formally open at 7.30pm.

Coffee morning - Proceeds from the coffee morning held at the town hall in aid of the Wragby branch of Disability Lincs amounted to a total of £284 and thanks go to those who gave their support.

Members attended their regular Tuesday morning social meeting in the hall annex where instead of the usual programme they supervised stalls and ran the raffle and tombola as they welcomed their visitors.

Students from Lesley Leonards’ upholstery class took a brief break from their work and joined in too.

The money will be used to pay for the Disability Group coach outings which are arranged on the last Tuesday of each month during the summer months.

The members make their choice of destinations at the beginning of the year and so have regular outings to look forward to, ending in December with a trip out for Christmas lunch.

Headquarters - The Management Committee of the Scout and Guide Headquarters will be holding their AGM on Monday, November 16, starting at 7pm.

This is open to everyone including parents, friends and supporters of Guiding and Scouting in Wragby and it is hoped people will show their support to the children of the units by attending.

Committee members would welcome support from anyone who would be willing to help out with the occasional fundraising events, general work on and at the H/Q – all vital to keep the building up and running.

Do we need a defibrillator - A public meeting was held at the town hall, with a presentation on the value of a defibrillator given by Steven Hydes of LIVES when it was agreed that yes it did and perhaps more than one.

Wragby already has defibrillators he said, one at the doctors’ surgery which is available during surgery hours and one at the Fire and Rescue Station on Millbrook Park, but it goes with the appliance when it is called out.

Mr Hydes also referred to the very good ambulance service in the county and the valuable support of the LIVES First Responders but they cannot always reach rural areas within the time limit following cardiac arrest.

Those present at the meeting agreed efforts should be made to provide one or more if it was considered necessary and a small committee was formed to take the project forward and consider ways in which to raise the funds needed.

Viv Moss, Martin Hardy and Dr Suzanne Taylor volunteered to join Barbara Bartlett to launch the fund raising appeal.

Community Hub - The new Community Hub, staffed and run by volunteers, will open next Wednesday, November 4, from 10am to 1pm, and again on the Friday, from 10am to 1pm; it will then continue to serve the community each week on the same days and times.

It will be housed in the building vacated by the Library at the Fire and Rescue Centre on Millbrook Park, which closed at the end of September.

The library books and the public computers will all be available as before.

The Community Group is still appealing for more people to volunteer to help as they would like to eventually open for more hours each week and particularly on Saturday mornings, to benefit students who want to study.

The Community Group also hope to arrange computer and other courses, although it may not be possible to provide this as a free service in the future as funds will be needed to help support the Community Hub.
