Writing prize win for Emily at Somercotes Academy

Writing a spine chilling opening to a thriller novel in just 100 words sparked the creativity of Year 8 students at Somercotes Academy who took part in an inter-house writing competition.

The winner was Emily Thompson,12, from Volans House. She said: “Mine is really creepy about a girl in the woods.

“I enjoyed writing it. It was only 100 words long but it took me a long time to get it right.”
