Yorkshire Terriers Disability CC take on Haxey

World championship cricketers are set to visit the Isle next week to take on the might of Haxey's best batsmen and bowlers.

Players from the England squad who won the inaugural Disability Cricket World Championship in Bangladesh last year will be among those playing on Sunday, May 29 in the Yorkshire Terriers Disability Cricket Club team when they take on Haxey CC.

Organised by Haxey captain Mark Atkins, the match will be 40 overs a side, beginning at 1pm at the club.

“My son plays for the Yorkshire Terriers and the team includes several of the England team that won the World Cup,” Mark explained. “My lad made his debut against Lancashire and claimed an England batsman as his first victim.

“We’re really delighted to host this match, which could be a tough one for Haxey.”

The Terriers play in both the D40League (40-over hard ball cricket with coloured clothing and pink balls) and Super 9’s (a nine-a-side, thirty-over competition with a aeroball, plastic cricket ball).

For their visit, there will be lots going on at the Haxey ground, including the chance to learn more about cricket involving physical and learning disability players. Refreshments will be available and a one-off auction is being held, together with a raffle with a wide range of prizes.
