Youngster making waves for charity

A WORKSOP schoolboy made a splash when he swam 4,000 metres for charity.

Nine-year-old Niall Goy swam 160 lengths raising over £400 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice at the same time.

The youngster was spurred into action after seeing an article about Bluebell Wood and how staff care for seriously ill children.

Niall’s family and friends were only too pleased to sponsor him and he completed the mammoth swim in just under two hours.

“As family cheered Niall on in the final few lengths I was bursting with pride,” said mum Paula. “Niall is such a caring boy, he always puts others first and when he gets an idea he runs with it from start to finish. He is a real little star in our eyes.” The Sir Edmund Hillary School pupil thanked everyone who sponsored and supported him.

And the big-hearted boy is already planning to do something similar next year - maybe even swimming 5,000 metres.
