Youngsters' splash for diabetes research
Two children from Ruskington have between them swum the distance of the English Channel, to raise money for diabetes research.
Tamsin and Nathan Dunn, aged 10 and 8, swam a staggering 1,416 lengths of the RAF Cranwell pool during their spare time. They originally planned to progress the distance each night and complete the feat over 13 weeks. But their enthusiasm and determination saw them finish in just eight weeks – a month earlier. They raised over £500 for the Aspire research campaign.
Tamsin and Nathan said they really enjoyed the challenge, but admitted to getting very tired during some evenings at the pool. Their grandfather has Type 2 diabetes and a cousin has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes aged 16. Their parents, Chris and Katie Dunn, are thoroughly proud of their efforts, but doubt they could have managed it themselves.
