The castle is inviting people with a passion for drama to audition for its community theatre ensemble. The group will work alongside the core team of professional actors that performs historical scenes in the Victorian Prison.

The company will present up to five short plays on selected weekends throughout the main visitor season, between April and October.

Jon Hogan, marketing and events manager, said: “All our plays have been specially written by Nottingham playwright Nick Wood and are performed in ‘promenade’ style.

“Currently performances take place in the Condemned Cell, the Women’s Prison and in the world famous Chapel.

“However, two new extended plays are being created for the Men’s Prison and the Exercise Yard, which will require significant numbers of ensemble actors.

“So if you have a flair for the dramatic and would like to be part of the team, get in touch.”

Rehearsals will take place at the castle in March and the season opens on the Easter weekend (March 25-28). Actors will perform on a rotational basis. There are a wide variety of roles and company members are expected to be able to undertake different characterisations according to availability on the day.
