To mark its special milestone, the Chapel Street store, opposite Imperial Hall, will give away a bag of dogs’ gravy bones, wheat-free goodies, or tasty cat treats, each worth £1.60 but completely free to any Bells reader who visits with the cut-out coupon from this week’s paper. The offer will remain open until November 19 subject to conditions printed on the Bells’ coupon.

People have been really great since we opened here a year ago, and this is our way of saying a big thank you,” said store owner Yvonne Arrand (above), who also lives in the Isle and chose Epworth to site her shop because of the support local people show to town businesses.

Yvonne has two dogs of her own, a Norfolk terrier and a Norwich terrier, both of which she has shown at Crufts. She also supports a number of animal charities and is a great fan of Dogs for the Disabled, and the work that they do.

The shop is an Aladdin’s cave of pets clothing (including Christmas jumpers), harnesses, treats, bedding, treatments and foodstuffs, and if there is anything you require that can’t be found on the shelves then Yvonne will happily order it for you. She is an agent for both James Wellbeloved and Belton Sneyds’ Wonderdog products.

Harnesses can be fitted properly to the individual dog as can coats, now that winter is setting in.

There are gifts (including for owners and their pets such as shared hampers) and nothing can be requested that is too much trouble, said Yvonne, who has sold impressive cat drinking fountains, nail grinders and dog loos in this past year.

There are starter packs for puppies and kittens, and small pets such as hamsters, guinea pigs and chinchillas are also catered for in terms of food and bedding.

As the firework season no longer ends with bonfire night these days, those with dogs who suffer extreme anxiety can find help at Wags & Whiskers in the form of spot-on treatment, tablets, or special ‘calming coats ‘ that can be ordered in to size.

The shop is open from 9am to 5pm from Tuesday to Friday, from 10am to 2pm on Saturdays, and is closed Sundays and Mondays. Yvonne can also be contacted during those times on 01427 873213.

She thanks everyone for their custom over the past year and invites anyone who may not have visited the shop yet to call by and have a look around with no obligation.
