Youth club makeover

IT was a marathon effort by all as Carlton Youth Centre was given a major makeover this month.

Staff from Wilkinson’s Charity Team DC1 all pitched in over three days to transform the Lawn Road centre.

The youth club now boasts a revamped kitchen, sports barn, toilets, games room and arts and craft area.

The project was also givena helping hand by district councillors as well as Carlton Cross Community Group, Pelham Lodge, Blyth Marble and Carlton Parish Council.

Worker in charge Steve Scotthorne said what was supposed to have been a 24-hour refurbishment turned into a three-day marathon, with volunteers working noon and night.

“It is a great time on the back of GB success at the Olympics to have the youth centre looking clean and welcoming for young people of Carlton and the surrounding areas to come back to in September,” he said.

“The centre is one of the biggest and best attended across the county and that is a credit to all the young people, local residents and staff who have taken ownership of the centre.”

The centre will re-open on Monday 3rd September.
