And as well as helping to keep people fit and healthy, the event also raise £280 for the resource centre on Laughton Road.

Zumba is a fitness programme that combines Latin and lively international music with dance in an effort to make exercise more fun.

And for the last six months Dinnington town councillor Jane Havenhand has become a fan, attending regular Zumba sessions.

She enjoys it so much that she organised the event to encourage more people to get involved in Zumba.

“I just love Zumba. I think it’s because of all the music and dance steps,” she said.

“It doesn’t feel like you’re exercising when you really are.”

“I wanted to promote Zumba in the area because it’s a great way to get fit.”

“I asked the resource centre and they thought a Zumbathon was a great idea.”

“Instructors from Amanda Turner’s Intershape offered all their instructors for free.”

There were two sessions held - one from 9am until 1pm and an evening session from 5pm to 9pm.

In between there was a session on healthy eating and promotion including a chiropodist and reiki healer. There was also a representative there from Slimming World.

“At one point in the morning there was about 40 people taking part in there,” added Jane.

“People would come in for a while and then have a break before joining in again.

“We also had the pre-school children come in and take part for 10 minutes which was lovely to see and a dance crew from Intershape.”

“It was all about health promotion, gentle exercise and letting people experience Zumba.”

One woman who took part enjoyed it so much, she took part in both sessions and did Zumba for eight hours in total.
