Children’s University launched at Prospect Hill Junior School

After children and staff released balloons in University colours, parents enjoyed specially-baked ‘graduation’ biscuits with their tea or coffee.

Children’s University is a brand new-project linked with Nottingham Trent University which aims to reward children for taking part in learning activities outside school hours.

Pupils have a passport and earn credits which are rewarded at three stages - Bronze at 30 hours, Silver at 65 hours and Gold at 100 hours.

All children who achieve Gold will go on to a special graduation ceremony at Nottingham Trent University where they will get to wear graduation gowns and caps.

National research shows a strong link between participation in study support activities and academic progrss due to increased self-esteem and confidence.

A Prospect Hill Junior spokesman said the school was delighted to be part of the scheme.

“We are really excited to see the children fill up their passports as they undertake exciting learning opportunities,” she said.
