Holiday havens where four-legged friends are most welcome

Doggy holidays are more popular than ever with a surge in bookings from people looking for a COVID-safe staycation this year.

UK accommodation site Dog Friendly Cottages has reported a 216 per cent rise in bookings compared to last year.

With the October half-term school holiday on the horizon, people will be looking for a place to take their family, pooch included.

Experts at Dog Friendly Cottages have suggested these places:

Scarbrough boasts a dog-friendly cafe in Emma’s Coffee Lounge which serves hearty pies and afternoon teas. Stay in Beech Cottage which has beautiful walking routes straight from the door and a dog-friendly beach two miles away.

Coastal pub

Newquay’s dog-friendly pub is The Farmers Arms , a true Cornish coastal pub renowned for its great food and live entertainment. Visit the Lakeside Cafe where pet owners can feast on coffee and cake during the day and gastronomic delights at night while their four-legged friends tuck into home-made dog biscuits.

Whitby is home to Little Gem Cottage which is in the heart of the town and perfect for couples and their fur baby. The Pier Inn is a seafront pub which is less than five minutes from the town centre and offers a good resting place for dog walkers.

Keswick in the beautiful Lake District houses Mews Studio Cottage, ideal for a couple and two pets. Take a trip to The Square Orange which brings continental cafe culture to this popular visitor destination.

Over in Derbyshire’s Peak District, the spa town of Buxton has a dog-friendly pub called The Railway where weary travellers can unwind while their pet quenches its thirst with a bowl of water. For dog-friendly accommodation, check out Smalldale Cottage, just four miles from Castleton and six miles from Hope Valley, both providing ideal walking conditions for pets and owners.
