Singer Rita Ora has apologised after breaking lockdown rules in London - here’s what happened

Rita Ora has posted an apology after breaking English lockdown rules while holding a gathering with friends to celebrate her 30th birthday.

Posting on Instagram Stories, the singer said she was “deeply sorry” for attending a party at a restaurant in west London on Saturday 28 November.

Ora admitted a “serious and inexcusable error of judgement” and that “it was a spur of the moment decision made with the misguided view” that the nation was coming out of lockdown.

More than 30 people in attendance

The rule breaking party was first reported by The Sun. The singer is said to have attended a bash at Casa Cruz restaurant in Notting Hill, along with “more than 30 people.”

England’s current national lockdown measures make it against the law to meet more than one person you do not live with, except in specific circumstances. Pubs and restaurants are currently closed, and only serving non-alcoholic takeaways.

Images of the party showed Ora arriving at the restaurant along with a number of people, including model Cara Delevingne.

In the statement Ora said, “I’m deeply sorry for breaking the rules and in turn understand that this puts people at risk. This was a serious and inexcusable error of judgment. Given the restrictions, I realise how irresponsible these actions were and I take full responsibility.

“I feel particularly embarrassed knowing first hand how hard people have worked to combat this terrible illness and being fully aware of the sacrifices that people and businesses have made to help keep us all safe. Even though this won’t make it right, I want to sincerely apologise.”

London Metropolitan Police confirmed officers went to the Casa Cruz restaurant after a report of a potential breach of Covid lockdown regulations.

The BBC has reported that Rita Ora is voluntarily paying a fine to the police.
