What if you could go on holiday and guarantee that you’ll get your money back on your accommodation if it does happen to rain?

Believe it or not, an island in Italy will actually give you your money back if it rains for too long while you’re there. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Island of Elba

The island of Elba is located just off the coast of Tuscany, and is one of the biggest islands in Italy. Elba is also part of the National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago, which is the largest marine park in Europe.

With stunning beaches and its rich history, Elba is a great place to relax, explore and soak up the sunshine.

But if your time away is spoiled by rain then the island’s ‘Elba No Rain’ guarantee will see you get your money back if it rains.

The rainy day initiative was launched last year and offers a refund on guests' hotel stays if it rains for too long.

When can I claim money back?

The initiative is in place during May and then from September through October.

The island's official tourist site says, "Even if rain is rare on Elba Island in May, it can still occur. But on Elba rain is no longer a problem!

"With the initiative ‘Elba No Rain’, during the month of May and from September - October, if rain happens to occur during your stay, you won’t have to pay for your overnight accommodation!"

How do I get a refund?

A total of 14 accommodation providers on the island are currently participating in the scheme, including luxury hotels and camping sites, but you'll need to email them to request their Elba No Rain tariff, and to book.

In order for you to get a refund, it needs to have rained for two hours or more between the hours of 10am and 8pm in the months included in the initiative.

Buy a house in Italy for 85p

Numerous places in Italy have recently been selling homes for one euro, which works out at around 85p.

If you fancy owning a property in Italy, then the city of Taranto is currently selling cheap homes in a drive to improve the city’s image.

Officials are hoping that these one euro homes will help to bring new life to the historic area, which is situated on a strip of land between the sea and a lagoon.

Although these initiatives have been seen in Italy before, so far only remote villages and towns have been involved, with Taranto being the first city to take part in the scheme, according to Italian news outlet, The Local.
