Will Smith to perform official song of World Cup 2018

Will Smith is to follow in the footsteps of Ricky Martin, Anastacia, Shakira and Il Divo to perform the official song of the World Cup.

The Hollywood star will team up with Nicky Jam and Kosovo singer Era Istrefi for the anthem which is set to be released on Friday.

Nicky Jam manager's Juan Diego Medina told Colombia's W Radio that his client and Smith were in Budapest finalising the song, while Vibe reported that the duo were working on the song according to reggaeton producer DJ Nelson.

It will be Smith's first foray into the music scene since 2015 when he featured in Colombian band Bomba Estéreo's 'Fiesta'.

The 49-year-old came into the public eye as part of the hip hop duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince with their most prominent hit 'Summertime' before Smith reached global fame with his role in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Further music success arrived via a solo career with hits such as 'Miami', 'Gettin' Jiggy wit It' and 'Men in Black'.

As The Fresh Prince of Bell-Air came to an end, Smith, who has been nominated for two Oscars, became a leading a lead role in a number of Hollywood blockbusters and enjoys A-list status.

Smith is set to join an array of music stars to lend their voice to the World Cup, with each edition spring multiple songs.

Coca-Cola have already released their song 'Colours' by Jason Derulo for the tournament.

For the 2014 World Cup in Brazil Pitbull linked up with Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte for the official song 'We Are One (Ole Ola)', while four years previous Shakira sang 'Waka Waka' for the South Africa edition.
