a Busy year for Falcons

THE new year could be the busiest yet for Dinnington’s Falcon Fight Academy and the martial arts governing bodies run by Cris Janson-Piers from his Victoria Street headquarters.

Fighters will be in action as early as January, and 2012 will end with another flagship fight show at the Lyric Theatre.

On 7th January local martial artists will take on a sponsored 15-mile trek to raise money for some much needed equipment for the gym.

And at the end of the month Janson-Piers will take a team to Saffron Walden for several K1 kickboxing and mixed martial arts bouts.

In February the British national team coach will bring his Swedish counterpart over, in a move that will also see the Anston man travel to Scandinavia.

He said: “Between mid-March and the end of the year we will have too many shows to mention, with one nearly every weekend – including a show held and televised in a TV studio.”

The BFKKO GB athletes under his charge are to compete across all styles at two World Championships, with trials in January to select an elite squad.

And December is to bring another fight night to Dinnington.

Janson-Piers told the Guardian: “We will end the year with another flagship show on 1st December at the Lyric Theatre again.”

“This year’s show was outstanding and attracted fighters from France, Ireland, Holland and all over the UK.”

“We also had kickboxing legend Ernesto Hoost in attendance.”

The Victoria Street gym from which Janson-Piers and his team operate has been redecorated, and to celebrate he’s offering free training sessions.

He said: “There will be classes for new child or adult, male or female starters in January and the fighting classes will be busy with people wanting to ensure their place in the World Games on this our Olympic year.”

“I’d like to offer people a completely free, no obligation trial visit to the gym between 7th January and 25th January, we have lessons in kickboxing, Muay Thai, K1, MMA, points, light contact and more.”
