A double success for Gillespie in Swindon

The Wragby athlete competed at the final Swindon Throws Invitational event, where he won the Throws Triathlon and Heavyweight Hammer.

In the triathlon, he opened with a 24.17m hammer throw.

This was followed up with a season’s best 8.63m in the shot putt.

The final event of the triathlon was the heavyweight hammer, in which he threw 8.72m.

This gave Jim a final winning points score of 1,223.

Later in the day there was a separate heavyweight hammer competition, which Jim also won, this time with a distance of 9.98m.

“I have one more winter competition next week in Abingdon, then it will be all guns blazing for the summer season which starts in April,” said Jim.
