Ann claims three-club challenge at Boston Golf Club

Twenty-one members of Boston Golf Club's Ladies' Section set out armed with only two clubs and a putter - pondering over why they take a 14 normally.

The three-club competition saw Ann Hodgson win with 31 stableford points, two points ahead of second-place Anne Wallhead.

Pat Couture finished third, also with 29 points, missing out on countback.

The Winter Eclectic prize went to Hilary Calvert, who won the silver division with 64 nett.

Second in silver was Ann Hodgson with 66 nett.

The bronze award went to Jane Marriott with 73 nett.

Sixteen teams of ladies from around the county played in the St Patrick’s Day Waltz.

Winning with 82 points were Hilary Calvert, Anne Wallhead and Ruth Simpson (Boston) with Cindy Ireland (Woodhall Spa GC).

A team from Canwick Park took second place on a countback with 81 points.

Sandy Rawlins, Margaret Hope, Sue Smith and Sue Brown, pushed Anne Edwards, Cherry Harpham, Julie Lambert and Georgia Sly from Thorney Lakes into third, also with 81 points.

The best away team not in the main prizes went to Sue Churchill, Anne Fensome, Mary Sharp and Kay Hircock (Burghley Park).

A friendly match of mixed handicap players was held at Boston, with the hosts beating Blankney 3&1.

Boston Golf Club’s men’s section hosted the Reynolds Cup qualifier on Sunday.

The betterball medal of 90 per cent handicap was won by B. Hawkins and C. Ballard with 63 points.

In second were G. Willis and P. Kelly (64), ahead of third-placed T. Reay and A. Annous (66) and S. Elias and I. Tyler (66), in fourth.
