Hermione Wright claimed the bronze medal in the senior girls’ race, after completing a gruelling and muddy 4km course. She has now qualified to compete for Derbyshire Schools for the second time in the English Schools Cross Country Finals at Woolaton Park, Nottingham, in March.

Her younger brother, William, ran an excellent race, leading at the start only to be pipped on the line in 13th position out of a pack of 119 runners in the 3.5km intermediate boys race.

He was first home for South Derbyshire, an improvement on his third place in the South Derbyshire Championships earlier in the season.
