ATHLETICS: Wragby's Gillespie improves at regional championships

Young Wragby athlete weekend Kieran Gillespie competed for Lincolnshire in the Anglian Schools Combined Events Championships at Peterborough over the weekend.

He set new personal bests in the 400 metres (59.7sec), an improvement of two seconds, and the javelin (32.55m). His final points score of 3,097 was a massive personal best by 600 points – a massive improvement.

He finished 10th overall, and Lincolnshire came second, just being pipped by Essex, with Leicestershire third and Bedfordshire fourth.

Kieran’s father Jim said: “Kieran has worked incredibly hard this year so thoroughly deserves this level of improvement.

“As the season progresses, I’m sure there is more to come because competition is the key, so I have lined up a number of high quality events for him, to test himself against the best.”
