Basketball side make winning start in Sheffield

WORKSOP’S new B team made a winning start to their Division Three campaign with a close fought victory over league newcomers, the Starz.

Worksop fielded a mix of youth and experience and both contributed to an exciting encounter.

Youngsters Matt Beardsley, Adam Wagstaffe and Chris Hall were among the points early on as Worksop edged the first period for a 15-12 lead.

Starz hit back in the second to get within a point before Worksop restored their three point advantage to lead 26-23 at half-time.

Worksop’s experienced front court pairing of Andrew Fagan and Jamie Clarke came to the fore in the second half, along with Godsway Dzuboku who returned to the team after a three-year absence.
