Boston ABC stage hugely successful home show

The Boston Amateur Boxing Club staged a hugely successful home show at the Peter Paine Performance Centre on Saturday evening, an event that featured all of their boxers in a blockbuster full bill.
12 evenly matched bouts, including 3 title fights was what they ended with and our boxers didn’t disappoint as every single one of them gave it their all during their bouts which, the sell out capacity crowd really appreciated.
The first into the lions den was 11 year old female boxer Polly Clarricoates who was appearing in her first skills contest, in the opposite corner was Rhylee-Mae Bumkin from the Alfreton ABC. Once the nerves had settled down both girls demonstrated a great level of skill that will see them do well on their boxing journey. Polly “The Pocket Rocket” as she is now known, moved in and out of range with good combinations scoring well and gave a very good account of herself.
Following immediately was Kortina Beecham in another skills contest vs Alisha Salmon of the Derby City. Another good development bout for Bostons Beecham who worked patiently behind her ram rod of a lead hand as she stabbed it into the capable Derby girls direction and built her combinations from there. She can build on this experience as she moves towards scored contests.

Jacob “The Bull” Bartram was the first male competitor, boxing in his first scored contest against Louis Tomlinson of the Fusion ABC. Bartram marauded forwards and made his intentions known from the beginning, working in his combinations to head and body as he trapped his opponent against the ropes. A back and forth battle for supremacy waged on as both boxers exchanged plenty of leather in a very close contest with the Grimsby boxer being declared the winner.
Bethany Tyler was the next called to action as she was matched against Madison Key of the Tommy Coyle ABC. Bethany wasted very little time in getting to work delivering spiteful combinations in the Hull boxers direction. She was boxing like a girl possessed with only one thing on her mind - to get that win. With the crowd roaring her on, this she emphatically did gaining the points decision win in a pleasing performance.
Stylish Olly Boswell was in next against John Gallegar of the Kings Lynn Youth ABC - the physical advantages was there to be seen with the taller Gallegar using his height and reach to his advantage boxing at range behind his long jab. A different opponent than he has been used to, Boswell needed to get closer to be effective and close the Norfolk fighter down, when he got inside he was able to have success delivering hard punches up and down. The judges giving the Kings Lynn boy the nod on this occasion.
Denvor Woodcock was next called to the squared circle, matched against Zachary Maynard of the Lions ABC. The Birmingham fighter started quickly giving Denvor little choice but to fight fire with fire in the early goings. Once the dust settled, Woodcock made the adjustments he needed to get himself a foothold in the contest, delivering hard eye pleasing blows that was enough to put Maynard on the back foot. Woodcock was relentless in his pursuit as he reigned in combination after combination and got his reward with a fine win much to the delight of his supporters.

Arya Baker stepped in next against Norwich City’s George Howard, Baker opted to pot shot in the first but was unfortunately falling short, Howard was able to take advantage of this by being busier. Baker needed to roll his sleeves up and get to work, this he duly did, forcing the Norwich lad backwards as he began to unsettle him. A closer 2nd round that was difficult to score. A big effort was given in the last by Baker in his best round as he threw everything in his arsenal at Howard, seemingly taking the round. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough with the result being awarded to the blue corner.
Bostons first title bout, a light heavyweight match was fought between Bostons Lyndon Morley and Laiton Fraitor in a 3x3 minute contest. Fraitor boxing from range, made it difficult for Morley to get close, Lyndon was patient in his pursuit and kept edging himself forwards and forwards by slipping punches and working his way in. Plenty of “ooohs” could be heard from the crowd when Lyndon landed his heavy shots, the Nottingham boxer to his credit took them and continued with his game plan that had served him well and saw out the contest to take the title home.
Youth middleweight boxer Oscar Watson needed to return some order to the proceedings in his bout vs Joe Taylor of the St. Paul’s ABC. A close 1st round ensued with both boxers having successes which looked like the Boston fighter may have just had his nose in front. Watson needed to be busier to pull away and give himself a cushion going into the last. Oscar began to throw punches in bunches delivering spiteful combinations that was felt by the Hull boxer as he took the round. With the first round being close, Watson needed to make sure the bout was going to go in his favour, pleasingly he had the engine to do this and threw everything at Taylor who struggled to contain him. The result going the Boston lads way by a unanimous decision.
The last Boston boxer to appear was Youth lightweight Alfie Doughty vs Jack Sharp of the Braunstone Golden Gloves in a Regional title fight. With so much at stake both boxers were relentless in their pursuit as they both threw countless punches from close quarters working in punches to the head and body - the entire bout could have been fought inside a proverbial telephone booth as both boys tirelessly fought back and forth. It was Doughty pushing Sharpe back but covering well taking punches on the arms and hands whilst firing back. It was breathtaking stuff, that had the crowd roaring with delight. With both boxers expanding so much energy it was cruel for one of them to lose as equally they both wanted it so much! Disappointingly the title went to the Leicester fighter, Doughty can hold his head high, he gained a lot of admiration and respect from everyone in attendance.
The club would like to thank everyone that attended and made the night a great success, they are already looking forward to their next show.
