Callum Johnson is ready to put on a show.

After almost two years out the ring, the Boston boxer is ready to come back with a bang after penning a new deal with promoter Frank Warren.

“All I’m interested in is entertaining. I’m an entertaining fighter and I lay it all on the line,” he told The Standard.

People know what they’ll get with me - excitement, power and knockouts.

“That’s what people like to see and what I like to deliver.

“I’m looking forward to getting back under the lights and entertaining people again.”

Johnson - who has won British and Commonwealth light heavyweight titles as a pro - has signed a long-term deal with promoter Warren’s Queensberry Promotions after parting company with Eddie Hearne’s Matchroom set-up.

The 35-year-old has suffered a frustrating period of inactivity which has been hampered by injury.

His last bout was 2019’s victory over Seanie Monaghan in New York.

However, Johnson - whose only defeat in 19 professional bouts came in his world title fight with Artur Beterbiev three years ago - hopes that will all change as he is reunited with Warren, whom he first worked with in 2010 when turning pro after winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

The Covid-19 pandemic scuppered plans of a European light heavyweight title fight with Russian Ighor Mikhalkin last May, but Johnson - who is part of Manchester-based coach Joe Gallagher’s stable - has his sights firmly set on more glory.

“The European fight’s probably lost now but my main objective is to get that world title shot again,” he added.

“Whoever I’ve got to go through to get it, I’ve got to go through. That’s down to Frank and Joe to sort that path.

“I need another fight to get back properly. It’s been two years by the time I’ll fight again.

“There won’t be any easy fights, but I don’t want an easy fight.

“I want a top fighter so I can get straight back into the world rankings.

“I’m excited I’ve got something to look forward to.”
