The Bostonian was delighted to have answered his country's call, but frustrated at suffering his third defeat to Welshman Sam Leyson, who was representing Great Britain for the fight.

"He deserved it," Pogson reflected.

"I've pushed him hard three times but I can't argue with the decision.

"The judges gave it to him 4-1, so at least one judge thought I'd done enough.

"But I left feeling I could have done more. That's probably down to him not letting me."

Pogson will now turn his attention to fulfilling another dream, winning the National Amateur Championships, after being beaten in this year's final.

But he still took time to reflect upon Thursday's bout in Sheffield.

"To represent my country on a stage like that is a massive achievement," he added.

"I'm still buzzing about that."
