Brigg hockey: Firsts slip to third straight loss at Richmond
The long journey and an under-strength team made for a sluggish start and the home side were soon holding a 2-0 lead.
Brigg hit back when Andrew Reid scored in open play, netting with a reverse-stick shot following a pass from Ollie Reid.
That goal came in Brigg’s best spell of the match, the 10-minute period before half-time which arrived with Richmond holding a 3-1 lead.
In the second half Colin Lattimor, in the Brigg goal, made some excellent saves to keep his side in the game for as long as possible.
The visitors did add a second goal when Andy Dixon scored with a drag-flick at a short corner.
But the home side struck back with two more goals of their own as Brigg went down to a 5-2 defeat.
They now have six games left to save themselves from relegation out of the North League back into the Yorkshire League.
The run-in begins on Saturday with a home match against Sheffield University Bankers at Brumby Hall, 2pm start.
* Brigg mens second team played out an entertaining 5-5 draw at home to the University of Leeds.
Goals came from Sam Crooks (2), David Baggott (2) and Ian Van Den Berg.
Brigg men’s third XI won 4-1 away at University of Leeds, while Toby Carter scored two well-taken goals as Brigg Fourths drew 2-2 with Worksop Second XI.
The veterans men’s side progressed through to the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Vets Cup when they beat Rotherham 8-3.
