A brutal innings from James Cook was the highlight of Firbeck’s winning draw against Harthill in Division One.

Cook was dropped off the third ball of the match when he had made just two.

He made Harthill pay a heavy price for the miss as he proceeded to smash 171 off 158 balls with 12 fours and nine sixes - and five lost balls in the process.

He was well supported by Adam Dutton (59) and James Hubball (44) as Firbeck piled up 287-4 in 46 overs.

Ian Briggs (2-68) was the best of the Harthill bowlers but opening pair Rob Jones and Paul Grafton both conceded over 80 as they bore the brunt of Cook’s assault.

With the wicket hard and the outfield rapid, Firbeck new that it would still be hard work to get points

Alex Needham (2-37 ) removed Briggs early on but it was Chris Tindle who was the star with the ball for Firbeck.

On a flat track that was offering little help, Trindle returned figures of 5-63, an effort that was every bit as impressive in its own way as Cook’s innings had been earlier.

However, stubborn resistance from the Hartshill middle order of Danny Anthony (60), Andrew Collinson (23), Jamie Taylor (28) and Jones (39no), Tindle’s efforts were just unable to force the win and Firbeck had to settle for the draw.

However, the points were enough to ensure they maintained a healthy lead at the top of the Division One table, currently 19 clear of Edwinstowe, who also had a winning draw against Cuckney.
