Champions off to an ordinary start with loss and close call

Gainsborough Bowls League champions Melrose SSC have had an ordinary start to the defence of their title, losing at Beckingham and squeezing past Rose A.

At Beckingham, Melrose have so often looked like losing but turned it around.

However this time a Melrose rink that looked like winning had to settle for a draw on the last end, and on another rink the Melrose trio looked like winning but the Beckingham skip moved the jack with the last bowl of the match to ensure a draw.

Beckingham won 6-4 (76-72).
