Comprehensive victory for Dinnington squad

DINNINGTON Comprehensive have qualified for the regional round of the National Schools Rounders tournament.

On Thursday 17th May the Rotherham round of the competition took place at the Doe Quarry Lane school. Five schools entered, hoping to qualify in the top two positions for the South Yorkshire round on 14th June.

Dinnington, captained by Abbie Lockett and Beth Smyth, took on Aston Academy, Wickersley, Wath and Rawmarsh in a round robin with games featuring one innings of 21 good balls.

Their first game against Wath was tight, but some superb fielding saw them win 6-4. Against Aston Dinnington fielded first and managed to stop Aston from scoring at all.

Coach Dana Abdulkarim said: “Notable performers were Maisie Wise, Jade Hamer, Ellie Broad and Beth Smyth.”

The team’s coach left them to their own devices for the game against Wickersley, due to a parents meeting, but they didn’t let her down, winning 6-4.

And in the final encounter, Dinnington won 10.5-2 against Rawmarsh in an entertaining spectacle.
