Building for the future

THE new cricket season may be months away, but Anston Cricket Club are celebrating a huge victory.

The community cricket club have been successful in their bid to gain planning permission for a clubhouse extension.

Anston’s Andy Ruczenczyn explained to the Guardian what the proposed changes to the clubhouse would entail.

“We’re starting on the path of an exciting journey to create a larger community, sporting and social environment having successfully obtained planning permission to extend our clubhouse, thanks to the support and guidance of John Cawkwell-Stansfield, of CS Surveying and Architectural Design in Dinnington,” he said.

“The construction work will result in the much needed creation of three additional top floor rooms and a redesign of the interior of the existing clubhouse.”

“It is intended that these facilities will provide extensive services to the youth of Anston, surrounding villages and their families.”

Anston tasted great success on the field last season with a highest ever league finish for the firsts in the Bassetlaw Championship, and victory in the Twenty20 Mallen Trophy.

The second team achieved promotion, as did the thirds, and the ladies were second in their division.

Off the wicket in recent years the club have invested in outdoor nets, grass cutting equipment, a freshly laid squre and roll on covers.

Ruczenczyn believes the clubhouse improvements will help Anston achieve even greater things in the sport.

“Those necessary initiatives to improve the playing facilities have taken priority over the buildings in recent years, resulting in them not getting the face-lift that they richly deserve.

“Our new project will enable to club to grow to a size that means it is able to fulfil its potential as a truly great community based sporting centre, bringing through youngsters of all levels to play competitive cricket in the right spirit.”

“The current changing rooms would be moved upstairs, while bringing the toilet and baby changing facilities up to a modern day standard.”

Now the Ryton Road outfit are asking for the help and support of local people, to fulfil the dream of improving the facilities and developing cricket stars of the future.

“To make these proposed changes happen the club really needs help from the local community,” said club veteran Ruczenczyn .

“Any help that people can offer through skills or sponsorship from local businesses would make this a reality.”

“We have a dedicated Committee who would love to meet with any interested parties who may be able to offer assistance.”
