Captain Jack Wightwick hits half century to guide Alford and District CC to victory

Captain Jack Wightwick struck a half century as Alford CC beat Freiston, Leake and Leverton in a friendly on Sunday.

Freiston had posted 149-9 before Alford secured a five-wicket success, responding with 151-5.

Alford lost two early wickets as they found themselves on 11-2.

That brought Wightwick to the crease and he played an excellent attacking innings.

Initially supported by Lucas Kelly (29), Wightwick brought up his fluent half century.

Wightwick was eventually caught for 88, but by then the game was all but over.

The impressive Ryan Overton took two late wickets, but Samuel Chatterton (19*) saw Alford home with 13 overs to spare.

Andrew Bluff led the way with the ball for Alford, taking four wickets for the loss of just one run from his four overs.

Chatterton (added three victims for the loss of 15 runs.

Aaron Wilkinson and Kelly took one wicket each.

Waseem Ilyas (42) and Ashok Kumar (33) top scored for Freiston.

Overton was the pick of the Freiston bowlers with three wickets.
