Chris almighty, cricket history!

A Firbeck bowler made cricket history on Saturday, with the Bassetlaw League’s best ever bowling performance.

Chris Tindle took all 10 wickets – including a hat-trick – for a miserly 12 runs.

His devastating spell made victory an inevitability for Firbeck, against a shell shocked West Indian Cavaliers side in Division One action.

The 22-year-old went home with the match ball as a memento, not before a quick trip to the pub to celebrate with his team-mates.

And he told the Guardian it was a day that will live with him forever.

“It still hasn’t really sunk in,” he said.

“I was that hyped up, it was brilliant, my team-mates all ran over and congratulated me and hugged me, it was a great moment – I won’t forget it.”

“The umpires were fantastic, they both shook my hand and said they’d never seen it in their time.”

“Most of the opponents were very gracious as well, given what had just happened to them.”

The previous individual bowling record was set in 1980, when J. Frazer of Bevercoates took 10 for 14 against Everton.

More recently, professional Chad Keegan took 10 for 36 while playing for Worksop in 2011.

But Tindle’s 10 for 12 is the very best in the league’s record books.

He explained how it came about.

“I opened the bowling, and the first few wickets came relatively quickly.”

“My hat-trick came from the second, third and fourth wickets, there were a couple of good catches, I got a few LBW and I clean bowled the rest.”

“But I was just happy we got 20 points, we’re looking for another promotion.”

A player who joined the club as a 13-year-old, and has been part of Firbeck’s rise through the Bassetlaw divisions, Tindle’s previous best bowling return was 6 for 16. His skipper, Steve Barson, said the 10-wicket haul was reward for his dedication.

“It was brilliant, unbelievable really, everything he did seemed to work for him,” he told the Guardian.

“He’s a good lad, he’s put a lot of work in and he’s got his rewards.”

“It was the best bowling performance I’ve ever seen.”
