COUNTY CRICKET ROUND-UP: South Lincs and Border Leagues

A good weekend for Boston saw the First XI top the 300-point mark in the South Lincolnshire & Border League Premier Division, while Chris Morley and Tom Poole both scored centuries for the Seconds to keep their side second in Division One.

Against second-placed Woodhall Spa Seconds, the league leaders were bowled out for 252, Saihan Azim making 51 after Kieran Evans (46) and Dave Newman (48) had got the innings off to a good start with an opening stand of 92.

Woodhall recovered from losing two early wickets, number seven Peter Jackson sharing good partnerships with Kieran Richardson and Alfie Lindsey but with 43 to his name, Jackson ran out of partners as the final wicket fell on 214.

Liam Dave hit the division’s top score of 85 but could not prevent Stamford Town’s defeat by Sleaford Seconds from whom Jack Wilson made an unbeaten 64.

Sleaford are now just six points behind Woodhall with Bourne, who beat Long Sutton, in fourth place.

John McDougall took his runs tally for the season to 569, hitting 67 as Market Deeping Seconds tightened their grip on the Division One title, beating challengers Freiston by just three wickets.

Lower down the table, Lindum Thirds moved away from the relegation area with a win over Welby but Billingborough Seconds remain in danger after being on the receiving end of Boston’s two centuries.

Baston and Timberland continue to battle it out for the Division Two championship with Timberland currently in pole position, just three points ahead of their rivals.

John Lamin made 59 in Baston’s win over Burgh & District while Simon Behan (73) and Ian Mickleburgh (58) contributed to Timberland’s victory over Belton Park Seconds.

The highest team score was at Spalding where Graves Park hit 306 for eight against the home side’s Third XI, Liam Maskell with 140.

Steve Clements then took five for 20 as Spalding collapsed to 48 all out.
