COUNTY CRICKET ROUND-UP: South Lincs and Border Leagues

Boston’s lead at the top of the South Lincolnshire & Border League was cut by one point after Bourne Seconds picked up 20 against Lindum Ramblers while the leaders dropped a point in their victory over Belton Park.

But things are much tighter in the lower half of the table where bottom side Moulton Harrox are beginning to fall away but above them just 15 points separate seventh and 11th places.

The highest scoring and tightest game in the Premier Division came at Billingborough where Woodhall Spa Seconds finished on 239 for nine, new signing Daelon Campbell hitting 87.

But the home side were also in good batting form, Mitch Griffiths making 51 and at the close, Billingborough were just five runs short of their target with eight wickets down.

Grantham Seconds also put in a good run chase, overtaking Long Sutton’s 210 for eight with just one wicket standing.

Tom Ward took six Boston wickets for Belton Park while Sumit Puri put in a man of the match performance for Sleaford Seconds, hitting 63 runs and taking five for nine in his side’s win over Moulton Harrox.

A battle is building for the Division One championship, Market Deeping Seconds leading the way after a nine wicket win over Billingborough 2nd.

Just five points behind are Freiston who beat Lindum Thirds while Skegness Seconds and Boston Seconds are still within striking distance of top place.

Reece Brant took five wickets in the seasiders’ win over Grantham Thirds as did Tim Bell for Boston who beat Heckington.

Welby’s hopes of avoiding relegation were boosted with a win over Long Sutton Seconds.

Tony Richardson made 77 and David Sumner 52 in Welby’s 235 for three before Andrew Spencer’s five for 10 off four overs saw the visitors bowled out for 66.

In Division Two, Timberland and Claypole are now neck and neck in second place, behind leaders Baston who were without a game.

Claypole went down to Burgh & District, for whom Phil Sharp took five wickets and Justin Owen hit an unbeaten 52.

Meanwhile, four players were hitting half centuries for Timberland in their victory over Spalding Thirds.

Paul Durward top scored with 62 as Timberland made the day’s highest total of 281 for seven and Eric Askin then took six wickets as Spalding were all out for 96.

Pinchbeck lie fourth with games in hand after beating Graves Park by seven wickets while Grantham Fourths’ young side beat Boston 3rd by two wickets to record their second win of the season, 13-year-old Jaden Fell top scoring for Grantham with 37.
