Cricket bosses delighted after permission to start Bassetlaw and NPL seasons is given

Bosses of the Bassetlaw & District Cricket League say they are delighted to finally be able to get their delayed season underway.

The league management committee will now be working with the governing bodies to provide as much cricket as possible, with discussions currently underway over league rules and playing conditions.

Clubs will also be able to opt in, with no penalties or sanctions for any clubs unable to enter teams.

A league spokesman said: “Throughout the lockdown period we have remained patient in the hope that we would be allowed to restart cricket and decided not to cancel our season unless it became impossible to run a meaningful competition due to time constraints.

“During this period we have liaised with our colleagues at the Nottinghamshire Cricket Board, Nottinghamshire Premier League and South Notts Cricket League to ensure a consistent approach to restarting the game we all love; and to ensure that all our clubs have been kept fully informed and afforded the most current information provided by the government and ECB.

“Our efforts will now be concentrated on adjusting the structure of our league divisions and formulating league fixtures with the aim of starting competitive cricket on Saturday 18th July 2020. We will also endeavour to run a knockout cup competition should there be sufficient interest from our clubs.

“We would like to thank all our clubs for their forbearance and patience during this period and to our colleagues at the NCB, NPL and SNCL for their continued assistance and collaboration at this time.”

Further information and guidance will be distributed to all clubs, officials, and umpires over the forthcoming days as it is made available to us from the relevant governing bodies.

Meanwhile, the Notts Premier League said they were thrilled with the news.

A spokesman said: The NPL are thrilled with the news coming out of the ECB.

“The committee awaits the release of the approved ECB guidance after which we will shortly be in touch with our clubs to map out how the rest of the 2020 season could look.

“The NPL will not start next weekend on July 11th. We want to give all clubs enough time to get their facilities ready.”

“But by next weekend we will have a structure in place for the rest of the 2020 season and have communicated it to our clubs.”
