CRICKET: Sleaford go into new season with new overseas player and new skipper

Sleaford have replaced their Kiwi run machine Tim McIntosh with Obus Pienarr, a South African all-rounder, and have a new skipper in Shaun Morris as they go into the opening day of the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League season at Market Deeping on Saturday.

Two returning teams join the league as it goes into its 17th season.

Boston and Nettleham have fought their way back into the top flight after several years away and begin their campaigns on Saturday against Grantham and Grimsby Town respectively.

Nettleham, captained by Jack Curtis, have retained the services of South African Rhett Bridgens who helped them claim the Lincolnshire County Cricket League championship, while Boston will be looking to Dave Newman, who scored more than 1,000 runs in the South Lincs and Border League in 2015, for batting inspiration.

Tom Baxter leads Boston into action at Gorse Lane where Grantham have lost Karanjit Bansal to the Nottinghamshire League but have a new captain in county batsman Dan Freeman, and have signed James Keast from Cleethorpes.

Ben Powell also makes a return to the Lincolnshire league to play at Grantham.

Grimsby are awaiting the arrival of a Trinidadian bowler to boost their attack and have welcomed back former member Neal Snell.

Woodhall Spa take on Lindum. Woodhall have re-signed Sri Lankan international wicketkeeper Prasanna Jayawardene while Lindum have secured the services of Matt Rutherford, the league’s top wicket taker in 2015.

Lindum also have a new top order batsman/wicketkeeper in Australian Bradley Mitchell.

Champions Bracebridge Heath entertain Skegness, neither of whom have introduced their overseas players as yet. David Whapplington has returned to Bracebridge and Paul Cook and Sean Chamberlain continue to captain their respective sides.

Bourne journey to Louth where Australian Keaton Critchell has recently joined Andy Carrington’s side and 2015 runners-up Sleaford are at Market Deeping who will be introducing a number of new signings, including Dan Bendon from the Northants Premier League.
