Defeat and victory as Freiston LL cricket teams play friendly matches

Freiston Leake and Leverton lost out in a high scoring friendly away to Alford.

The hosts made 283 off 45 overs, whilst Freiston replied with 237.

Freiston struggled with the ball and in the field, as Alford raced to 200-1.

Openers George Gregory (87) and Jake McGloughlin (43) both took full advantage whilst Alford skipper Jack Wightwick made a enterprising 81.

Freiston improved once the top three had been dismissed but the damage was already done.

Ryan Overton was the pick of the Freiston bowlers with 2-40 whilst Ashok Kumar also picked up a couple of wickets.

Freiston looked better with the bat.

Zeeshan Saeed made 23, before Richard Paul and Waseem Ilyas shared a 65 run partnership.

Skipper Paul made 30, before Ilyas was joined by Abdul Moeed for a century stand.

Ilyas made 71 and Moeed 56, but when they were dismissed Freiston’s faint hopes of victory went.

Freiston batted out their overs and made a creditable 237, failing 46 short of victory.

They face Woodhall Seconds this weekend.

Freiston’s Second team began their season with victory over their counterparts from Billingborough.

Billingborough were bowled out for 69, wickets taken by Steve Appleyard (four), Danny Lumley, Justin George (two), Ben Siddall, Bonakeli Njovana and Mat Dean.

Freiston were reduced to 19-4 but an unbeaten 51-run partnership between Tom Appleyard (25*) and JP Horton (26*) saw Freiston to victory.
