Disappointing end to the cricket season

ASTON Hall rounded off their season in disappointing style with a comprehensive defeat.

Asked to bat first, Whiston got off to a solid start with Andy Tomlinson and Steve Taylor putting on 129 for the first wicket.

Taylor made a steady 66 before Liam Heathcote (44) put on 101 for the third wicket with Tomlinson as the score progressed to an ominous 275 for 3.

With 3.5 overs remaining Sohail Awan came to the crease and proceeded to declare war on the Aston attack.

In an astonishing demonstration of hitting, he hit an unbeaten 65 off a mere 15 balls.

Tomlinson could be content with an unbeaten 139 and an outstanding aggregate of total of 1,240 runs in league matches for Whiston.

Whiston posted a mammoth 356 for 3.

In reply, Aston were never in the hunt with only two batsmen making double figures.

A splendid 80 from Amir Riaz, with 10 fours and three sixes, spared their blushes.

The visitors were hustled out for just 142 in 33 overs with Andrew Winstanley bagging 4 for 64

DIVISION TWO

Whiston PC B 210 for 6

IN a competitive encounter at already promoted Aston Hall, third place Whiston came away with a hard fought win.

Batting first, Aston were thankful for an excellent innings of 82 by Matt Shepherd.

At 102 for 5 Whiston looked to be poised to wrap up the Aston innings, but Alex Keeton’s 42 took the score on and Aston were able to post 208 all out with 3 unused overs.

Lee Jeffries starred with the ball taking 6 for 37 from his 10 overs.

In reply, an opening stand of 74, with Scott Wilson’s pacey 54 provided the momentum and Anthony Lancashire digging in for a patient 50.

James Panek hit a useful 27 before Andy Green (29) and Nicky Struggles (20) settled the nerves.

Nigel Walker posed a constant threat with 4 for 41 but Whiston passed the total with four wickets in hand and three overs to spare.
