Firbeck look forward to life in Division One

FIRBECK are looking forward to life in Division One, after securing promotion at the end of an impressive season.

Their delighted skipper Steve Barson paid tribute to his men for their work ethic and picked out a couple of star performers from the Division Two championship winning side.

“We’ve had a good season, everyone has worked hard,” he said.

“We played some good cricket when the weather allowed.”

“Along with the core of the side, some of our old juniors returned from playing at a higher level and have certainly made a difference, particularly our wicketkeeper Tom Barker and batsman Adam Dutton.”

“I want to thank everyone who has contributed though, from players to spectators.”

Barson hopes to carry on the club’s tradition of developing local talent in their new division in 2013.

He told the Guardian: “We are very much looking forward to playing at the next level but realise we will have to up our game to compete against some very good sides.”

“We are particularly proud of the fact that the lads who got us promotion are all local, and in the main have all been brought through our junior system, and we would like to think we can compete with the same ethic in Division One.”

“Our ambition for next year is to improve our junior section coaching and be competitive at all levels throughout the club.”
